There is a very common question people ask me about my job, “What is the Spanish Bible School and what do I do there?” Let me try to give a “short” answer…
I am blessed to serve as the Director of Escuela Biblica en Linea. This is a work of the church of Christ which serves side by side with World Video Bible School (WVBS). We are bringing all the content produced by WVBS to the Spanish-speaking world, and that involves Bible courses as well as topical and evangelistic videos. It is a lot of work.
I translate and adapt their content into Spanish, prepare my presentations and scripts, and get ready to be in front of the camera to record the lessons. I am very thankful that I do not need to set up the stage and cameras, as the brethren at WVBS do that for me. Once the lessons are recorded, I proceed to edit them and add all the graphics and footage to the videos. Then, render, review, and upload them to our YouTube channel and set them up on our websites. Then, I promote those through social media and newsletters.
Since the lessons are available 24/7 we get many emails during the week from people with genuine questions about the material covered and I gladly answer all of them. As we keep working on the Bible courses, we make them available to everyone who wants to study what the Bible says but have not enabled the enrolling process yet. Once enrollment is activated, we will need to grade exams and papers, which I do not have the time available right now as we keep developing the School.
The hardest part of my job is in the area of Public Relations as I struggle with the idea of “selling myself and what I do”, but, when opportunities arise, we go and visit congregations and provide a presentation about this work of the Lord. I said “we” because there is a silent and unpaid coworker, and that is Jacky, my beautiful wife, who is my driver, proofreader, teleprompter specialist, psychologist, encourager, critic, and the hardest of all, the one who makes me look good in front of the camera. In my “free” time, I also collaborate with brotherhood works such as Apologetics Press, House to House, Christian Courier, International Gospel Hour, and others. My goal is to serve God to the best of my abilities (Colossians 3:17) and to get as many resources as we can to our Hispanic communities and congregations for their evangelistic efforts and spiritual edification (Matthew 28:18-20).
If you are reading this, it is because I love you and want you to know a little bit more of the reasons why the rings and bags under my eyes keep growing. I am so thankful to God for the opportunity to do this job, and always remember the words my dear brother, Rudy Cain, told me before we started this journey, “there are more than 8 billion people in this world, and the Lord blessed you with the opportunity and capability to do this”.
What is certain is that I cannot do this alone. There will be a moment when we will need to start hiring more brethren to help us with the work, but our finances do not allow us to do that yet. What can you do to help us? First and foremost, pray to God for open doors to keep this work going, and that our efforts keep reaching lost souls who are searching for the truth. Second, let people know about the work we do and the available resources. There are plenty of souls in our towns that speak Spanish, and they might be interested in getting some of their spiritual questions answered. Third, some of you already help us financially and because of that, we are very thankful to God and to you. If you would like to help us that way, please talk with the elders of the congregation, or reach out to me, and we will be more than glad to tell you how to make it happen.
May God bless you and your families richly. How wonderful it is to be part of the Lord’s church and serve Him in every way we can. To Him be all glory!
